In 1978, after selling a mushroom canning plant that Kenny designed and built, he went to work on fabricating the infamous 3-to-1 supermodified pictured above. The 3-to-1 supermodified with its unconventional design, took about 1 year to build. Kenny then took it for a test at Sandusky Speedway with the late Tim Richmond behind the wheel. The practice session went so well that tracks and series outlawed the super before it could be debuted in a race. Frustrated after all the time and hard work that went into fabricating the super, not being able to race it anywhere, Kenny decided to scrap the entire car with only a few pictures remaining.
In 1981, Kenny Reece started indoor racing at the Coliseum in Marion, Ohio. In the two years of racing at the Coliseum, Kenny had 2 stroke go karts and outlaw winged karts on the program. After the two years of races, he then sold the Coliseum race to Larry Boos. Larry kept the Coliseum race going for about another decade after acquiring it.
